How Much Weight Can Your Burn With Garcinia Supplements?

Sunday, January 15th, 2017

A lot of interest has started emerging in the extract from the fruit garcinia cambogia which is used for weight loss and fat burning. This is as a recent of the findings of recently documented studies.

The extract of garcinia cambogia comes from the rind of the fruit of the tree of garcinia cambogia which grows in south Asia. It is a close relative of the trees and plants from which the mangosteens is sourced. HCA (hydroxycitric acid) is the ingredient that is active and has through clinical studies shown its effectiveness in management of weight.

research on garcinia cambogia

In a study that was placebo-controlled, double-blind and randomized, participants numbering 90 who were suffering from body weight that was excessive were given the extract of garcinia cambogia (HCA 60percent) or a three times daily placebo at most 1 hour before dinner, lunch, and breakfast daily for 2 months. The participants were kept on a diet that was strictly 2,000 calories daily from food that was delivered after being prepared for them. They also participated in a five times weekly program of walking exercises for 30 minutes daily.

The assessment of the researchers were made to their lipid profiles, appetite, serum serotin levels, fat metabolites, BMI (body mass index), and body weight to track changes. In the garcinia cambogia group, the average weight loss was about 10.8 pounds which was thrice greater than the placebo group (exercise and diet alone) who lost 3.3 pounds.

The garcinia group equally saw a reduction in the intake of food and their appetite was curbed by 15 percent. The reduction in their appetite correlated with a noticeable increase in the levels of their serum serotonin. It is apparent that serotonin’s availability to suppress appetite is enhanced. This leads in satiety being increased. Serotonin is the brain hormone responsible for feeling good. It assists in telling you that you are satisfied and full. If there is a reduction in your appetite, you would eat less and lose weight the more. It could also address a lot of the numerous issues of emotion which are faced by overweight people like depression and binge-eating.

The same study also revealed that the group for the garcinia also:

  • significantly reduced bad (LDL) cholesterol by 12.9 percent,
  • reduced total cholesterol by 6.9 percent,
  • reduced levels of triglyceride by 6.9percent and
  • increased good (HDL) cholesterol by 8.9 percent.

The HCA which is the component that is active in garcinia seems to inhibit the enzyme ATP-citrate lyase. This causes a diversion in carbohydrates from storage of fats and towards energy that is stored in glycogen forms. Increased levels of glycogen are suspected to send brain signals that the body is satisfied or full. This results in a reduction in appetite and intake of food. Additionally, as previously mentioned, it appears to cause a stimulation in the release of serotonin which is related to a reduction in the intake of food. It has also shown to assist the breakup of the layer of protective perilipin which surrounds cells of fat and makes it easier to burn cells of fat by the body.

The research mentioned above utilized 60percent HCA from the extract of garcinia cambogia. It is now patented and includes potassium and calcium to serve as an improvement in its intake.

The level of dosage that would be best suited for anyone that desires to lose weight would be to take two capsules thrice daily. It should be noted that even over a short term, a lower dosage of this supplement revealed that it reduced the intake of calories by a quarter and snacking by forty percent when taking a capsule thrice daily.
